After an overwhelming start to his UFC career, Khamzat Shimaev went through his first moment of real difficulty in the octagon in April this year, when he faced Gilbert Durinho No. UFC 273. With verbal agreement to be Chimaev's next opponent in the octagon, Muhammad highlighted the strengths presented by the “Wolf” in the duel against Gilbert Durinho, but guaranteed to have found weaknesses in the possible rival.
“I saw weaknesses in him. Obviously everyone is saying that he's not as good as they thought he was, but I already think he's shown that he has the chin and that he has a lot of power. Plus, he was facing Gilbert Burns,” Muhammad highlighted on the “Food Truck Diaries” podcast.
Undefeated in eight fights since the beginning of 2019, Belal Muhammad | believes that strategy and adaptability are essential factors in his recent success in the welterweight division.
“When you get to the top 5, if you don't have a good strategy, you'll lose to the best guys. My last three fights showed I can fight with strategy, because they were three very different fighters. I faced Demian, against whom I couldn't go to the ground. I faced 'Wonderboy' and I couldn't kickbox with him, but I dominated him more than anyone had ever done. Then I faced Luque, who had already knocked me out, holds the record for interruptions at welterweight and is good on the feet and on the ground. How could I beat a guy like that? Well, with a lot of movement, footwork and getting into takedowns when he least expected it”, he concluded.
