Defeated in a split decision by the judges in a balanced title fight against Valentina Shevchenko, UFC 275, Taila Santos gained a strong supporter. Ultimate icon and, today, commentator, Daniel Cormier saw victory for the Brazilian in the fight for the flyweight title (up to 56,7kg.) last Saturday (11). In the live broadcast of the show, DC explained his point of view.

“For me, it was an accidental headbutt that really determined the course of the fight. I thought Taila won”, guaranteed Cormier.

In order to reinforce his argument, Daniel admitted that he thought that Santos' attacks in grappling could have earned the Brazilian a higher score. The former champion thus expressed his criticism of the decision of two of the three judges, who saw the Kyrgyzstanis as a triumph.

“I think there is value in attempted submissions. Even though Valentina didn't go through so many troubles, Taila sought the submission and that always has value”, he concluded.

Although he didn't leave the octagon wearing the flyweight belt, Santos ended up making history in the division. After 25 minutes of confrontation, the Santa Catarina native became the toughest opponent in the trajectory of the, until then, absolute Shevchenko in the under-56,7kg division.
