Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares hasn't had an easy life since beating Mike Pierce at UFC Fight Night 29 last Wednesday (09). The Brazilian, who for the second time in his career held back a submission too much after his opponent withdrew, was fired by Ultimate and has since been harshly publicly criticized for what happened. Now, it was Jon Fitch's turn, currently in WSOF, to shoot Toquinho.
“It was his second time. Holding on to a submission for so long, especially with such a tight bracket, is talking about something that could end someone's career. I think the UFC acted correctly (in releasing him). I personally wouldn't accept a fight against him because of that. Once is fine, but twice is not. Honestly, I would never agree to compete with him. If he continues like this, his career will probably end, because no one will want to fight him”, said the former UFC welterweight title challenger to the “MMA Odds Breaker” website.
Considering that today Jon Fitch is one of the main names in World Series of Fighting, Rousimar Palhares' future in other organizations may be compromised. Since, recently, Bellator president Bjorn Rebney also denied that he would hire the Brazilian, claiming to prioritize the safety of his athletes. Furthermore, the Brazilian MMA Confederation suspended Toquinho for four months, which prevents him from participating in events regulated by the entity in the country until February 2014.
