Still no date or opponent defined for his next fight, worth the lightweight belt (70,3 kg), Charles of the Bronx makes no point of hiding who his preferred target is: Conor McGregor.

Charles of the Bronx lost the UFC lightweight belt after failing to make the division's weight limit for the duel against Justin gaethje, which would mark his second title defense, in May. After submitting the North American in the first round, however, the Brazilian guaranteed a place in the next fight for the vacant title.

As far as it depends on Charles of the Bronx, the other place in the title fight will be occupied by Conor McGregor.

"Conor McGregor it would be a very good fight for me. It would put a lot of money in my pocket, and right now that's the most important thing. It would also be really good for my legacy, to have on my record. Regardless of whether he's coming off a defeat or not, he's a guy who made history, so I think it would be great, but it's not just up to me. If it were up to me, this fight would already be happening. I have a daughter to raise. Everyone wants to face Conor, it's not just me. Everyone knows that facing Conor is very profitable. I'm talking about money and Conor knows that everyone wants to face him”, said the Brazilian in an interview with the North American “ESPN”.

Despite the desire to Charles of the Bronx, at the moment it seems unlikely that Conor McGregor be the one chosen to face it. In addition to going through a bad phase, the Irishman is still recovering from a serious injury suffered in July last year. The strongest possibility is that Islam makhachev, fourth in the ranking, is chosen to share the octagon with the Brazilian.

Despite recognizing the good phase Makhachev is going through, who has won the last ten challenges in the UFC, Charles is not completely convinced about the level of the Russian's opponents in the campaign.

“I never fought and the lightweight champion is called Charles Oliveira. Is Islam a very tough guy? Yes. Did he face big names? No. He's on a good run, but who did he fight against?”, asked the former champion.
