Jorjão Rodrigues from Rio Grande do Norte and Rick Palhares, brother of the black belt from Minas Gerais Rousimar Toquinho, shone in the seventh edition of Brasil Fight, an event held this Friday (11), in Divinópolis, in the interior of Minas Gerais.

Jorjão reminded the world that size is not a document. Scheduled two days in advance to replace Thiago Michel, the Kimura Nova União athlete had a performance worthy of the times of Royce gracie and, despite performing two categories above his own, he submitted the American Ken Jackson, 14 centimeters taller, with a rare kneebar, to win the international Superfight of the event.

When the international superfight began, Ken Jackson proved what was expected: taller, stronger and with sharp wrestling, he took down and controlled from above. But, underneath, was Jorjão Rodrigues, training partner of Jussier formiga, José Aldo, Renan Barao e Leo Santos, and owner of sharp jiu-jitsu. Calmly, the experienced athlete, who has more than 70 fights in his career, stayed in half guard, positioned a triangle with his legs, and stretched his opponent's until forcing him to give three taps, while the Divinópolis crowd cheered.

“I only found out about the fight two days before, and the time I had was to fight and travel”, recalls Jorjão. “I always train this position, I have a lot of confidence in it. I waited to exchange with him, but if he took down, I would submit. The fans were very affectionate, they showed that they really like fighting, it was a new and really cool experience to fight in Divinópolis. I have no plans for the future, but wherever a fight comes up, I’ll go.”

Another highly anticipated fight was that of Rick Palhares, brother of Rousimar Toquinho.
