Poirier believes Do Bronx could have tried harder to lose extra weight in scale incident

The Brazilian became the first fighter in UFC history to lose his belt 'on the scale' after weighing around 200g over the lightweight limit

Almost a month after the UFC 274, held on May 7th, the controversy involving Charles of the Bronx and the scale remains an issue. In the opinion of Dustin poirier, the Brazilian could have tried harder to lose the excess weight, which culminated in the loss of the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg).

“He didn’t need to be carried. He wasn't staggering around. He is always very thin. He is long and tall, so he looks thin. He's a big guy, but he didn't look like he needed help. He still had life in his body. He could, it seems, try to lose more weight. It was a title fight”, said Poirier.

Despite believing that Do Bronx could cut excess weight, Dustin poirier also took a stand in favor of implementing digital scales at UFC weigh-ins.

“We need digital scales to have no margin for error. We can't have a guy handling a manual scale and saying we're half a pound over or anything like that. We need exact numbers. You step on a digital scale, the number appears on the screen and that is your weight at the moment. I don’t like the fact that these guys are handling the scales”, concluded the North American.
