Amanda Nunes reveals that she will not abandon the featherweight division: 'I will continue to defend the belt'

Even involved in the rematch for the bantamweight title, the 'Lioness' stated that she will soon return to defend the title of the category where she is 'queen'

Even involved in the rematch for the bantamweight belt (up to 61,2kg), Amanda nunes has not forgotten the other title she still holds: featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg). In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', the 'Leoa' projected the future of the division, mentioned possible opponents and stated that she will soon defend her title again.

“The division is really small and needs some work and investment. But these are the challenges presented to me. It was a challenge to face (Cris) Cyborg for the belt, I accepted and it worked, I became champion. Whether the division exists or not, I became champion. The UFC will still offer me to fight in that category. There was a fight recently between Norma (Dumont) and (Macy) Chiasson. Chiasson could be a future opponent. It's still a division and it's moving forward, regardless of having just one, two, three athletes. The most important thing is that we are having struggles. I remain the champion and I will continue to defend the belt”, said Amanda.

The Lioness won the featherweight belt in December 2018, when she knocked out the legend Chris Cyborg. Afterwards, Amanda won two more defenses, against Felicia spencer e Megan anderson, winning on points and submission, respectively. The Brazilian athlete has a record of 21 triumphs and five setbacks as an MMA professional.
