“After 24 years of fighting jiu-jitsu, grappling and MMA, it's difficult to make the decision. I don't like the word 'retired', because it's complicated to have the idea of stopping. So, I announce that I will change the focus completely. When I set out to be a jiu-jitsu champion, I did it twice. Just like in grappling and UFC. I don't have that boxing title and I want to be able to dedicate myself 100%. I want this new title. I've been champion of everything, but I've never competed in boxing. I want to be champion and put another belt on the wall”, declared Werdum.

“There was this (proposal) from Bare Knuckle for July 30th, which is exactly my birthday. But, it didn't happen. In two or three months it would be nice to prepare. I'm going to follow the master's (Rafael Cordeiro) advice and not be in a rush to fight. In the first fight I need to be in great shape to show the world that I can be champion”, continued 'Vai Cavalo'.

“The experience I have – 24 years of fighting – gives me a lot of peace of mind. Before (in MMA), I had five disciplines to focus on (boxing, muay-thai, jiu-jitsu, grappling and physical preparation) and now I will only have boxing and physical preparation. I don't have to worry about knees or elbows. That's what helps a lot too. I have experience of training with fighters only in boxing. I’m already used to it,” he concluded.
