The organization of Shooto 43, which would take place this Friday (27), at Clube Hebraica, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), announced the cancellation of the event following the death of athlete Leandro “Feijão”, which occurred shortly before the official weigh-in. on Thursday (26). Coach and businessman Dedé Pederneiras, one of the organizers of Shooto, made the announcement through Facebook.
“Shooto Brasil hereby registers the cancellation of the event that would take place tomorrow (Friday) at Clube Hebraica, as a sign of MOURNING,” wrote Pederneiras, still on Thursday night. This Friday morning, Shooto's official page also released a note about the cancellation of the fight night. “Shooto 43 was canceled out of respect and mourning for what happened to the athlete Leandro Feijão”, says the statement.
The news of Leandro's death was given by his coach Leandro “Chatuba”, through his profile on Facebook. " Good night people. I would like to announce the death of our athlete Leandro Feijão, who was due to fight tomorrow at Shooto. Feijão felt ill before the weigh-in for the event, he passed out and was taken to the hospital, I still don’t know what led to Leandro’s death,” he wrote. The Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission announced that it will investigate the causes of the fighter's death after the release of the official medical report.
