The UFC plans to create an interim belt in flyweight (up to 56,7 kg). According to information from Canadian journalist Ariel Helwani, the organization is negotiating a rematch between Brandon Moreno e Kai Kara France for the position of interim champion of the division. The idea is for the duel to take place in UFC 277, on July 30th, in a location not yet defined.

The initial idea of Ultimate was to promote the first quadrilogy in the history of the division, between Deiveson Figueiredo e Brandon Moreno, who come from three consecutive clashes. However, the champion is dealing with injuries to both hands and is not expected to return to the Octagon until the end of the year, which, for the UFC, justifies the creation of the interim title.
If the plans are confirmed, it will be the second time that Brandon Moreno e Kai Kara France share the octagon. The first meeting took place at UFC 245, in December 2019, and ended with the Mexican winning the unanimous decision of the judges.
From there to here, Brandon Moreno saw action five times, with three wins, one draw and a single defeat. During this period, the Mexican became flyweight champion by winning Deiveson Figueiredo, but lost the belt in the trilogy against the Brazilian.
Just like the Mexican, Kai Kara France entered the octagon five times after the UFC 245, with four wins and just one defeat. The New Zealander comes from three consecutive victories and occupies second place in the division ranking, just behind Moreno.
