Interim lightweight champion in 2017, Tony Ferguson entered as favorite for the duel against charles do brox, which was the co-main fight of the UFC 256. However, what we saw in the octagon was a journey from the Brazilian athlete, who dominated the North American during the 15 minutes of the fight and emerged victorious in the unanimous decision of the judges. The triumph guaranteed the São Paulo native the opportunity to fight for the category belt.

In the most important fight of his career, Do Bronx came face to face with the former Bellator lightweight champion, Michael chandler, who was making his second fight with the organization's gloves and already in a title fight. After resisting the initial pressure from the North American, Charles came back with everything in the second round and knocked out his opponent, reaching the 'Olympus' of the most difficult category in professional MMA.

In December 2021, Charles entered the Octagon at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas (USA), for his first defense of the lightweight belt. Against the former interim champion Dustin poirier, the Brazilian once again entered the fight as an underdog, however, the ending was the same as the previous clashes. In the third round of the confrontation, the Brazilian athlete secured a rear naked choke and remained king of the category.

Last Saturday (07), at UFC 274, the lightweight belt was not at stake for Charles, but the Brazilian had another former interim champion standing in his way, Justin gaethje. After suffering a knockdown and going through trouble with the American's heavy hand, Charles decided to use what he does best, jiu-jitsu, he took his rival's back and managed another rear naked choke, which consolidated him as number 1 of lightweights today, even without the belt.

In his next fight, Charles will fight again for the world title, which is currently vacant, against an athlete who will still be defined by Ultimate. An MMA professional since 2008, the fighter from São Paulo has a record of 33 triumphs and eight setbacks in the sport.
