Eight years after his first fight, St.Preux once again overcomes Shogun in a fight marred by boos at UFC 274

North American extends bad moment of Brazilian legend in triumph achieved in the judges' split decision

Brazilian MMA legend, Mauritius Shogun his bad moment was magnified within Ultimate. In revenge against Ovince St Preux No. UFC 274, held in Phoenix (USA), the former light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) fought a strategic fight, but was unable to overcome his rival. Eight years after the first meeting, the Tupiniquim were defeated in a split decision by the judges. The confrontation was marked by boos, due to the lack of combativeness on the part of the stars.

With the result, Shogun reaches almost two years without a positive result in the organization. The Brazilian's last triumph came in July 2020, when he beat Rogério Minotouro, in a historic sports trilogy.

Victorious in the fight, St. was not close to repeating his great performance in his first fight against Maurício, in 2014. On that occasion, the athlete achieved victory in a flash, with a knockout in 34 seconds.

The positive result, however, marks Ovince's return to the light heavyweight division. The athlete had a negative pass in the category up to 120,2kg, leaving the group without winning.

The fight

The confrontation began with St.Preux taking the initiative with a low kick, responded in kind by Shogun. The Brazilian tried to shorten it with low kicks, but Ovince made use of his greater reach. After just over a minute, Maurício planted a cross into his opponent's face, who was unfazed. The clash remained tense, with the athletes measuring strength in the center of the Octagon. The North American played from long range, launching straight shots and kicks at the Tupiniquim's waistline. The round ended with the fighters studying each other in the center of the Octagon.

In the second stage, the athletes once again focused on kicks. Ovince continued to have an advantage, due to his greater wingspan. The fight unfolded in a tense manner, with the fighters adopting caution so as not to suffer a possible devastating blow. Halfway through the round, Shogun landed a combination of kicks and straight shots, which touched his rival. Ovince responded with a kick to the Curitiba native's waist. The fight continued 'back and forth'. When the Brazilian attacked, St.Preux responded. Just like in the first round, the round ended with the athletes facing each other in the center of the octagon.

In the decisive round, Shogun continued to bet on the kick. Still in the opening seconds, St.Preux went for the Brazilian's legs and looked for a takedown, which was well defended by the Curitiba native. After just over a minute, Ovince landed a direct shot, which seemed to shake the Brazilian. The North American tried to assert his advantage and sought to pressure the Tupiniquim against the bars. Maurício was circulating around the Octagon, but was at a disadvantage in the fight. With just over a minute left in the fight, Ovince connected with a high kick, which exploded in the Curitiba native's guard. Close to the end of the fight, the public booed the lack of combativeness of the athletes.

Randy Brown defeats Khaos Williams in open fight

Representative of welterweights (up to 77kg.), Randy Brown went through a great challenge in his MMA career. Promoted to the main card after the last-minute cancellation of the clash between Donald Cerrone e Joe lauzon, the Jamaican fought against Khaos Williams. After around 15 minutes of intense confrontation, the athlete was declared the winner in a split decision by the judges.

PUBLICITY:

With the victory, Brown extended his good momentum in the UFC welterweight division (up to 77kg). Now, the fighter has three consecutive victories in the organization.

Considered a promise for the company, Williams was unable to achieve his third consecutive victory. The athlete now reaches the mark of two stumbles in six Ultimate commitments.
