Still without a defined opponent for his next belt defense, the Brazilian José Aldo declared that he considers the American Ricardo Lamas as the athlete closest to a fight for the featherweight title. In addition to Lamas, Aldo also mentioned Cub swanson as a hypothetical opponent, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website.

“It's not me who decides this, but, in my mind, the next challenger should be Ricardo Lamas. He earned the right to have this chance. If it's not him, I believe Cub swanson it should be the next option”, said the Brazilian, who already beat Swanson in the now-defunct WEC – in a fight that lasted just eight seconds.

In the same interview, the champion also advised Ricardo Lamas. “If I were him, I wouldn't fight anyone else until I get my chance to fight for the belt. We should have already fought, but Anthony Pettis jumped the queue. Lamas should wait, because the moment is his. But if they decide on a second fight between him and Swanson to see who fights me, that’s fine with me”, he concluded.

Ricardo Lamas has a record of 13 wins and two losses. The 31-year-old American has won four consecutive victories and is second in the UFC featherweight rankings. In turn, Cub swanson occupies fourth position in the same list and has a record of 20 wins and five losses.
