Candidate for future challenger for the lightweight belt in Ultimate, Islam makhachev didn't like knowing that Alexander Volkanovsky has plans to test himself in the up to 70,3kg category. After the featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) publicly expressed his desire to move up a division, the Russian used social media to criticize the Australian. The former rugby player has done well as the absolute 'king' of his group.

Featherweight champion since 2019, Volkanovski showed progress with each performance. At the UFC 273, the Australian staged a real 'ride' against Chan sung jung, or 'Korean zombie', and, with a hard knockout, defended his title for the third time.

Considered by many as the successor to Khabib Nurmagomedov At lightweight, Makhachev has also shone in his recent trajectory in Ultimate. The athlete has 10 consecutive victories and currently occupies third place in the ranking led by Charles of the Bronx.

The Russian could have secured a match against the winner of Do Bronx and Justin gaethje, in a fight that takes place on May 7th. A 'bluff' about taking on a last-minute fight to replace Raphael Fiziev against Rafael dos Anjos, however, angered the UFC board and may have postponed the dream of the category's promise.
