The long-awaited duel between the prospects Conor McGregor e Diego Brandao will have to wait. The Irishman underwent an examination to check the severity of the knee injury sustained in last Saturday's fight. The result will leave him ten months away from the Octagon.
In his victory over Max Holloway, at UFC Fight Night 26, McGregor said he heard a pop in his knee during the second round. The exams confirmed a rupture in the anterior cruciate ligament, another in the meniscus and also a strain in the medial collateral ligament. The report indicates that the fighter may not fight until June 2014. The European athlete has two wins in the same number of fights in the UFC.
McGregor, through his trainer, had launched the challenge to face Brandão in December, at UFC 168. The Brazilian, who also won last Saturday, readily accepted the confrontation, which must now at least be postponed.
