Currently, the welterweight Demian Maia He is experiencing a magical moment in his career. With three dominant victories in the same number of fights in the new category, the São Paulo native will lead the card of UFC No Combate 4, which will be held in Barueri, in October. A situation very different from the one he experienced after he was defeated by Chris Weidman, in January of 2012.

At the press conference that made the event in Barueri official, Demian said that a series of problems almost made him stop fighting.

“When I changed weight, which was when I lost to Weidman, several things happened in my life,” said the fighter. “I broke my hand fighting him and had to have surgery. My wife was expecting a child and lost (the baby). When we were leaving the hospital, we were robbed by five armed guys. Anyway, several things that people don't know happened, and all at the same time. It was the only time in my life I thought about stopping fighting.”

Once the drama was over, Demian says he used the problems as motivation. “I know that at one point I stopped and thought: ‘It’s not possible, now only good things will happen, because if I had to pay some karma, I’ve already paid it’. And, really, only good things happened. It was a rebirth in my life.”
