The event that the UFC will promote in Brazilian territory in October does not yet have a defined location, but an important duel is close to being made official. The welterweight Demian Maia must face the former challenger Jake Shields.

“In my understanding, this will be Jake’s next fight,” Cesar Gracie, the American’s coach, told the MMA Fighting website.

Demian would face Josh koscheck in the co-main fight of UFC Rio 4, but an injury to the American canceled the duel. The São Paulo native is looking for his fourth victory in four appearances since dropping from middleweight. Currently, Maia is in fifth place in the UFC fighter rankings.

Shields last stepped into the Octagon in June, when he overcame Tyron woodley at UFC 161. This would have been the North American's third consecutive victory if he hadn't been caught doing anti-doping at UFC 150, when he beat Ed Herman as a middleweight. The victory went to I didn't answer (fight without result) and Shields suffered a six-month suspension before facing Woodley.
