Retired since December 2018, the former UFC featherweight (up to 65,7kg) title challenger, Chad Mendes, surprised by announcing an agreement to compete in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) – bare-knuckle boxing event – ​​and makes his debut in the sport this Saturday (19), against Joshuah Alvarez.

In an interview with 'The Schmo' to promote the fight, Mendes, 36 years old, revealed that he is eager to test himself in 'boxing without gloves'. He, however, did not rule out a possible return to mixed martial arts, as he still has a contract with the UFC.

"I don't know. Let's see on Saturday how it goes. I never boxed professionally and I never boxed professionally. So I'm going to go in there with the feeling that I'm either going to love it or hate it. We'll see. If I returned to the UFC, we would have to renegotiate a contract because there are still three fights left and it's not worth going back there. If we ended up talking about a renegotiation and it was worth it to me, I could think about it,” said Chad.

Professional since 2008, Chad Mendes he had retired from martial arts in 2018. During his career in Ultimate, he competed for the featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg) on ​​three occasions – two for the linear title and one for the interim title. The athlete, however, was defeated by José Aldo (2x) and Conor McGregor.
