Last Saturday (12), in the mixed zone of UFC 271, Dustin poirier reaffirmed his desire to face Nate diaz shortly. After Diaz revealed that the possible duel against Poirier should be the last of his MMA career, the “Diamante” was optimistic about carrying out the fight and showed respect for his potential opponent.

“I think (the fight against Nate diaz) has a good chance of happening. Summer is a good target if we have to put it on the calendar. I'm not sure, but I have a good feeling it's going to happen. I don't know if I'll stay at welterweight, but this fight makes sense. I want to be in fights that mean something to me. Nate is a guy I grew up watching. I respect him and his brother and I think stylistically it will be fun for the fans. It’s a fight worthy of ‘Fight of the Year’ and that’s the one I want to be in,” said Poirier.
Dustin poirier e Nate diaz they came close to facing each other in November 2018, but an injury took Poirier out of the fight, which was not rescheduled. Since then, however, the two have never hidden their desire to face each other. For the “Diamond”, however, the greatest motivation to face Nate diaz is the historical weight of the duel, as he revealed that he grew up watching Nate and his brother Nick Diaz fight.
“It’s a combination of everything, but it’s also history. I lived at my mom's house and watched this guy fight on The Ultimate Fighter. That's the kind of fight that means something to me. He is a pioneer of the sport. He and his brother have been around forever. When his brother was fighting in PRIDE, I was a fan. This was way before it was even cool, before it became popular. Nate is a real fighter and I love what he delivers, the intensity, the type of fight. I think with my style it will be an incredible fight,” he said.
