With an eye on a chance at the title, Derek Brunson surprises and plans two more fights before retiring

The North American, who faces Jared Cannonier at UFC 271, says he wants to end his career early so he can enjoy other moments outside of MMA

Professional since 2010 in mixed martial arts, Derek Brunson began planning his retirement from the octagons. On the eve of the dispute against Jared Cannonier No. UFC 271 next Saturday (12), the North American stated that he only wants to perform twice more, regardless of the result of the confrontation, before 'hanging up his gloves' in the sport.

“I don't want to fight until I can't fight anymore. I'm in top shape, feeling good. That's all I'm thinking about now – beat Cannonier, beat Israel adesanya and then retire. I did everything I needed to do in this division. I miss watching football games with my daughters. This is more important to me than chasing money. I was smart and I already made enough money,” Brunson said in an interview at the event’s media day.

With five consecutive victories under his belt, Brunson is in fourth place in the middleweight group. In addition to acting on the card, the athlete is also awaiting the outcome of the rematch between Adesanya and Robert whittaker, aiming for a possible shot at the Ultimate middleweight (up to 83,9kg) title. In his career, he has a record of 23 triumphs and seven setbacks.
