Spartan escapes surgery and aims to return to Bellator

The fighter was forced to leave the organization's heavyweight GP at short notice due to a knee injury

vinicius spartan1Out of the Bellator heavyweight GP due to a knee injury, Vinicius Spartan underwent tests last week to find out the severity of the injury and was able to rest easy. The Brazilian, who has already had meniscus surgery, will not need to undergo surgery, after discovering that he had an injury to the cartilage in his knee, which should require around three weeks of recovery, according to doctor Márcio Tannure. Treatment involves an injection to remove friction from the area, as well as physiotherapy sessions.

“He already had meniscus surgery a while ago, consequently, one knee is not the same as the other. He had synovitis, which is a stroke, which left his knee swollen with fluid, due to a cartilage injury, which can happen at any time. He didn't re-injure the meniscus, but it has to be treated. He also has a Baker's cyst, which is more of a finding than a problem, but it increases the pain. He was in no condition to fight, the doctors vetoed it, but that can only be treated through physiotherapy. He won’t need to operate,” the doctor assured.

Without wasting time, Spartan already intends to start physiotherapy sessions, in addition to doing physical training and other activities that do not harm the knee's recovery. The Team Nogueira fighter's intention is to participate in the Bellator heavyweight GP, in September.

“Now I have to do strengthening, but I'm going to do physiotherapy. From Monday I want to start physical training and, if I can hit a bag or do any training, I'll do it, but nothing that exposes the knee. My intention is to start preparing as soon as possible for the GP in September, which I want to fight in,” she concluded.
