Who thinks that the second defeat of Colby covington for Kamaru Usman would make the North American stop provocations against his eternal rival, he was wrong. Almost two months after the new stumble against the welterweight champion (under 77kg) in the group title dispute, the North American spoke again about the Nigerian. In an interview with 'MMA fighting', 'Chaos' made public his obsession with defeating the group's leader.

"To defeat Kamaru Usman, and that’s it”, said Covington, when asked what was more important: beating his rival or winning a belt. “I’m a better fighter than him. We will fight so many times that we need to perform at championship level. 'Best of seven'. That makes sense because it’s a very even fight on paper,” Colby said.

Current number one in the welterweight rankings, behind only Usman, Covington was highly praised by Dana White after his performance in UFC 268. In a historic rematch for the division, the North American once again imposed difficulties on the champion and was defeated, this time, by points, after 25 minutes of battle.

With the defeat, Kamaru managed to confirm, once again, his hegemony in the under-77kg group. Champion since 2019, the Nigerian has shown progress with each challenge and has broken significant marks within the UFC.

After Usman's new victory in Ultimate, the champion still doesn't know what the next step in his career will be. Like his rival, Covington also has no confirmed opponent for the sequence.
