VIDEO: Charles do Bronx 'ignores' Gaethje and challenges McGregor to fight in Brazil: 'this is a problem for you'

In an exclusive interview, the lightweight champion explained his preference for facing the Irishman in his next belt defense

The year 2021 was unforgettable for Charles of the Bronx. After almost 11 years in the UFC, the Brazilian finally became the organization's lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) by knocking out Michael chandler No. UFC 262, in May. To improve, finished Dustin poirier, UFC 269, in December and defended the belt for the first time, recording ten consecutive victories in the octagon. While enjoying some well-deserved rest in the last days of a memorable year, Charles already has plans to continue making history in 2022.

In an exclusive interview with journalist Laerte Viana, on the SUPER FIGHTS, the Brazilian made clear his preference for facing the Irishman.

"For sure Conor McGregor. He's the guy who's going to put a lot of money in my account. I've said this for a long time: if I had the opportunity to choose to fight for the belt or for money, I would choose the belt, because it was my dream and my family's dream. We won and stayed. Now I have to think about the legacy, about giving a better future to my father, my mother, my daughter. For sure Conor McGregor It’s the money fight,” Charles explained.

According to Charles, his schedule for returning to the octagon matches the date set for the UFC's return to Brazil: May 7, in Rio de Janeiro. The champion stated that he welcomes a duel against the Irishman on Brazilian territory and that he will start preparing at the beginning of January.

“(Jorge Patino) Macaco and Diego (Lima) said I would return around May. I'm a guy who likes to keep the pace, to always be fighting, so I think May is a very good date. If it were right here in Rio, like he (McGregor) himself said, that he wants to do a Brazil vs Ireland 2, that would be good too. That's the focus. I’m resting now at the end of the year and I want to start training again in the first week of January”, revealed the champion.

Lastly, Charles of the Bronx sent a message to Conor McGregor, challenging the Irishman.

“Don’t come, son, this is a problem for you. But if you want to come, you can come and I'm ready. The champion has a name and is called Charles Oliveira. If you want to do Brazil vs Ireland, come and I'm ready, on May 7th here in Rio de Janeiro. If you want it in your city, in your country, wherever you want, I’m ready”, challenged Charles.
