Dana White's original idea was to have a rematch between the former middleweight champion Anderson Silva and his executioner Chris Weidman in December, at UFC 168. This Tuesday, the UFC president changed his mind and started to indicate February 2014 as the new target for what he considers will be the biggest fight in the history of his organization.
White said he intends to hold the fight on a specific date, without the shadow of the Super Bowl, the final of the American football championship, the biggest sporting event in the United States. This means that the rematch between Anderson and Weidman should take place from the second Saturday of February next year.
“The rematch between Chris Weidman e Anderson Silva It will be the biggest fight in UFC history, but we don't want any conflicts with the Super Bowl broadcast. We want our next date for this event”, said the top hat.
If Weidman vs Anderson II were to take place in December, the UFC would postpone the rematch between Ronda Rousey e Miesha Tate for the Saturday before the Super Bowl. But, with the new order, the women's belt fight remains confirmed for UFC 168, on December 28th.
