Thinking only about the present. Heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg.) of Ultimate, Francis Ngannou prepares to measure forces against his former training partner and interim title holder, Cyryl Gane, in combat scheduled for the UFC 270, on January 22nd. Still, another name continues to be mentioned as a possible opponent in the future.

In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', Ngannou spoke about the possibility of facing Jon Jones in 2022. The Cameroonian highlighted that he no longer 'cares' about the North American and tries to face each opponent according to the moment in the heavyweight category.

“Personally, I don’t care about it anymore. There is a lot of talk about Jon Jones and he says many things, but we are still here (without fighting). I didn't even expect to fight someone who wasn't Jon Jones after the Stipe fight, but here I am, after ten months, going to fight Cyryl Gane – which was not even considered at that time -. So what Jon Jones says and what Jon Jones does are two different things and I can't bet on that. I just do what I have to do. We don’t know what the future holds for us”, said the champion.

Despite not ruling out a clash with 'Bones', Francis highlighted that his focus is solely on Ciryl for her first title defense.

“The situation is what it is, but what I'm trying to do is not let anything get in (my head) for the fight. I'm not allowed to be distracted by anything. It will be up to me if I make a mistake because I am distracted by everything around me. I accepted the fight, so I better take this seriously and focus on this no matter what happens.”

Holder of the organization's linear title, Francis Ngannou won the belt by knocking out Stipe Miocic No. UFC 260, which took place in March this year. The athlete now has a record of 16 triumphs and three setbacks in his professional career.
