After knocking out Raulian Paiva, Sean O'Malley reveals injury that almost took him out of UFC 269

In an interview after this Saturday's show (11), the bantamweight said he suffered a complicated rib injury that almost made him withdraw from the card.

Anyone who saw another knockout (and another great performance) from Sean O'Malley in Ultimate won't even imagine that the North American almost had to withdraw from the fight. In a press conference after the UFC 269 this Saturday (11), 'Sugar' revealed that he suffered a complicated rib injury during training and that he almost had to leave the duel against Raulian paiva.

“I just ran and batted gloves and then tried to fight again the following week. I couldn't do the simplest grappling. In the last three weeks, I haven't fought. I didn't even test it. I didn't even want to. I didn't want to do any clinch work. I did nothing. I went into this fight, planning on him not being able to touch me and just being confident and trusting the work I put in. I'm really proud of myself for having the mindset to be able to come here and know that,” O'Malley revealed.

Asked about when his next fight should be, 'Sugar' said he was in no rush to return to the Octagon and revealed that he intends to enjoy time with his family.

“I fought three times last year, I fought three times this year. I feel like every day I have a fight coming up. I feel like I'm going to take advantage of this and try not to schedule a fight and enjoy being with my family and my little princess. I'm sure I'll fight in March or April. Who will be? I don't know. It doesn't really matter. While the 'The Sugar Show'If I'm fighting, I don't think people will care much about who I'm fighting,” concluded the American.

In the next update of the bantamweight rankings, O'Malley will probably get his long-awaited place in the top-15 of the category. Riding on three consecutive victories, Sean has a record of 15 triumphs and only one setback in his career.
