On a streak of three straight wins, Dustin poirier has the chance to become, for the first time, the linear champion in UFC 269 next Saturday (11), when it measures forces against Charles of the Bronx in the main fight of the night. Still, despite the possibility of becoming the 'king' of the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg), the North American has already made history in Ultimate by overcoming big names in the division.

Unknown to the Ultimate fan public, Dustin poirier he already gave a taste of his talent and, in his fourth fight in the organization, he faced fellow newcomer Max Holloway in featherweights (up to 65,7kg.) and what we saw in the fight was a run over by 'Diamante'. Still in the first round, he played a game of grappling and, on top, submitted the Hawaiian in a triangle with a mounted armbar.

Around seven years later, in a duel valid for the interim UFC lightweight belt, the two fighters faced each other again in the Octagon. And, once again, the North American was superior in the unanimous decision of the judges, in the UFC 236, which took place in March 2019. The fight even won the 'Fight of the Night' award.

In November 2017, Dustin poirier was an underdog against the former champion Anthony Pettis in the bookmakers, but surprised again. With broad dominance during three rounds of the Wrestling game, 'Diamante' overcame 'Showtime' in the third round with a rear naked choke, after his opponent suffered a rib injury due to a failed attempt to get out of position.

The 'marriage' between Poirier and Gaethje's fight was perfect and the two fought one of the best fights of 2018, even receiving a standing ovation from the audience at UFC Glendale. And, in a real 'war' of blows, Dustin managed to go to the limit and achieve a knockout victory in the fourth round.

Excited by victories over Anthony Pettis e Justin gaethje, Dustin poirier met, for the second time, Eddie Alvarez. In the first meeting, the fight ended without result after an illegal blow from the former lightweight champion. A new commitment ended up being scheduled for UFC Calgary, in Canada, and the North American showed his superiority to win in the second round.

Before qualifying for a title fight, Poirier arrived for one of the most anticipated fights of 2021 and, in UFC 257 in January this year, he 'shocked the world' by running over Conor McGregor with a devastating knockout in the second round. He was, in fact, the first fighter in history to knock out the Irishman in mixed martial arts.

Speculated with a possible shot at the title, Dustin returned for a trilogy against 'Notório' and achieved another victory. The triumph, however, was not the way the fans expected. After all, Conor suffered a serious ankle injury just seconds before the end of the first round.

New history?

Despite having already worn the interim belt when he hit Max Holloway, Dustin poirier stopped at Khabib Nurmagomedov when trying to unify its title. About two years later, he has another chance, this time against Charles of the Bronx, to once again establish his name among the greatest fighters in the history of the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg.). In his record, the 'Diamante' has 28 triumphs, six setbacks and one 'no result' fight.

Fatal change? Makhachev ignores warning and could end tragically at welterweight!
