Still, a possible trilogy between the champions is not something that fills President Dana White's eyes.
In an interview with “TSN”, Dana White claimed that she would prefer Amanda and Valentina to continue dominating their respective divisions rather than facing each other for the third time.
“I don’t know if this fight needs to happen. I don't know. I've thought about this a lot. Both are incredible in their own weight divisions and have faced each other twice. Why do it again? If they really wanted it and the fans really wanted it, I would do it, but I don’t see much point in that”, asked Dana.
Amanda nunes e Valentina Shevchenko they faced each other for the first time in 2016, with the “Lioness” winning the fight after withstanding strong pressure imposed by the Kyrgyz-Peruvian. In the rematch, in 2017, the two faced each other again, this time in five very even rounds, with a new victory for the Brazilian, a result highly contested by Shevchenko. After the second defeat, Valentina dropped to the flyweight division (up to 56,7 kg), where she has been dominant ever since.
According to Dana White, even with the balance of the last confrontation, it would not be advantageous for Valentina Shevchenko return to fight with a size disadvantage in the top division.
“Here’s what’s unfair to Valentina – Amanda nunes It's much bigger than her. She can fight women weighing 61 or 66 kg. Valentina is without a doubt the baddest woman in the world in her division and below, but moving up a division with so much weight. Can she take it? Are we going for a split decision? It’s difficult to say”, argued the president.
