The heavy weight Dave Herman is scheduled to have his first fight after serving a doping suspension at UFC 162. The American fighter was caught in anti-doping at UFC Rio 3, when he tested positive for marijuana after being defeated by Rodrigo Minotauro.
This Friday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) issued a temporary one-fight license to Herman, enough for the athlete to face Gabriel Napao on July 6th. However, for this license to be fully valid, the heavyweight will have to undergo a new anti-doping test before the event. Herman will have to pay for this exam and will also be likely to undergo a surprise test carried out by the NSAC.
This entire procedure is part of the anti-drug treatment defined by the athletic commission at the time of the fighter's suspension. Herman underwent a thirty-day rehabilitation process and was eligible to receive a new license since April, when the six-month punishment expired. The UFC Rio 3 anti-doping test was the second time Herman was caught. In 2011, he had been caught for the same reason in a preliminary exam at UFC 136. The athlete ended up not being able to face Mike Russow at the time.
