“I didn’t want to wait until next year. I wanted to keep fighting. Anywhere, against anyone, anytime. Let's go. They told us that we didn't need to accept the fight. They told us we could wait, but I'm not like that. We are not like that. I spoke to my team, made everyone aware and everyone agreed. And here we are,” Holloway explained.

Holloway also took shots at colleagues who, according to him, prefer to “wait in line for the elevator” for a title fight instead of “taking the stairs”.

“The UFC doesn’t have the tournament structure, so a lot of these guys are just waiting for the elevator, you know? They are waiting for the elevator to reach the top. I don't wait for any elevator. There's no line at the stairs, so that's where you'll find me. It's nothing new for us. For me and my team, it's very important not to be an elevator diva. I just want to get in there and keep doing what I do. You can imagine who I'm talking about. You choose who the elevator divas are in this sport, but you know your boy is going to be on the stairs, going up fast and knocking these guys down,” said the Hawaiian.

Max Holloway faces Yair Rodriguez in the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 42, next Saturday (09). The duel should define the next challenger for the belt. Alexander Volkanovsky.
