And, in a post-UFC 268, an event held this Saturday (6), the Nigerian – who beat Colby covington in the main fight of the night – he spoke about the evolution of the sport to call himself the main name in the history of the category.
“Who is the best now? You know, I love Georges St-Pierre and I value everything he did for the sport. I respect him a lot, but time evolves. The sport evolves. Fighters get better, hungrier. And that’s where I am now,” said Usman.
It does not stop there. Close to beating the mark of the fighter with the longest winning streak in Ultimate (15), – behind only Anderson Silva, at 16, the champion states that he is still training to become better in the search for perfection in his game.
“Every morning I think about some way to improve, evolve my game. I know I still have a lot of gaps that I can improve, you know? Sometimes we can get complacent, but I don't want that to happen. So, as long as I'm still hungry to do this, I'll keep doing it”, concluded the Nigerian.
Considered by many as one of the best fighters in history, Kamaru Usman had a great five round battle against Colby covington, where he ended up taking the duel with a unanimous decision from the judges. To date, he has defended his title on five occasions, second only to GSP himself, who has nine.
