Five reasons to watch UFC 267, with two title fights and Brazilian squad

The big moment has arrived. This Saturday (30), on the traditional 'Fight Island', in Abu Dhabi, the long-awaited UFC 267, which gives the public two title fights. The event has a special flavor for Brazilian fans, as Glover Teixeira will try to make history and dethrone Jan Blachowicz in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg.). In the co-main fight, Petr yan faces Cory Sandhagen in dispute for the interim bantamweight belt (up to 61,2kg.).

After overcoming troubled moments in the light heavyweight division, Teixeira managed to reinvent himself in the organization and went through younger opponents, often winning as an underdog.

In 2014, the Minas Gerais native had his first chance to win a UFC belt. The athlete, however, bumped into Jon Jones, who reigned supreme in the category at the time.

Time passed and he managed to regain his status as a challenger. To do this, Glover ran over five victims in a row, convincing the organization's board of directors.

At 42 years old, Teixeira may not have many years of career left. The athlete, therefore, can make history by, at the end of his career in the sport, achieving the dream of any professional fighter.

First light heavyweight champion in the post-Jon Jones', Blachowicz brings pressure to the Octagon this weekend. Leader of the group since September last season, the Pole is trying to defend his second title, but the athlete's success is in doubt.

3) Petr Yan and the thirst for revenge

Dethroned from bantamweight after disqualification against aljamain sterling, in March, Petr yan He will go all out this Saturday to try to retake his throne as soon as possible. Initially, the Russian would fight the long-awaited rematch against his last rival, but the linear champion ended up getting injured and, consequently, leaving the event.

Willing to shock the world and beat Russia's star, Cory Sandhagen took on the challenge of facing Yan at the last minute. Highlight of the category and coming off a defeat to TJ Dillashaw, the North American may have a 'shortcut' to reach the dream fight for the group's linear title.

This Saturday, Petr will not compete for the absolute belt in the category. The co-main fight will be valid for the interim title. The winner of the clash will thus earn the right to face Aljamain in a duel to unify the belt.

4) Promises in action

Considered by many as the successor to the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam makhachev is back. Experiencing a great moment in his career, the fighter is one of the main stars of the show.

Over the weekend, the Russian was initially scheduled to face Rafael dos Anjos. An injury, however, ended up taking the Brazilian out of the event. Willing to shock the world, Dan Hooker took over the post.

Current number five in the category ranking led by Charles of the Bronx, Makhachev could be close to fighting for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg.). A victory over Hooker could see the fighter advance further into the top 5 and get closer to being able to challenge the champion.

In addition to Islam, another big UFC promise is back. Called a 'phenomenon' by Dana White, Khamzat Shimaev returns to MMA after experiencing a real personal drama. A bet for the future of the organization, the Swede went through a nightmare in December last season, when he had problems recovering from Covid-19.

The scare was such that the 27-year-old even publicly announced his retirement from the sport. The fighter, however, rethought his decision and, today, more than a year after his last fight, he returns.

Ahead, the Swede will have the dangerous li jingliang. Ultimate's bet, in the week of the dispute, promised to massacre the opponent.

If he wins, Chimaev could reach the welterweight rankings (up to 77kg.), currently led by Kamaru Usman. A triumph for the Swede, who enjoys prestige with the UFC, could see him face an opponent from the group's elite.

5) Brazilian squad

The confrontation that closes the preliminary card has everything to divide the Tupiniquim fans. Straw promises (up to 52,1kg.), Amanda ribas e Virna jandiroba they exchange forces with an eye on the top of the category. While Minas Gerais tries to recover from the harsh defeat suffered by Marina Rodriguez, the Bahian wants to confirm her good moment and reach her second consecutive victory.

Representative of featherweights (up to 65,7kg.), Ricardo Carcacinha wants to maintain regularity within the UFC. The Brazilian, this weekend, will need to nullify the strength in his fists. Zubaira Tukhugov to reach the second triumph in a row. While the São Paulo native is coming off a victory, the Russian stumbled in the last challenge.

Welterweight athlete, Elizeu Capoeira will have a quarry in UFC 267. Brazilian highlight in the category of Kamaru Usman, the fighter faces the undefeated Benoit Sait-Denis. If he wins, the Paraná native can resume his path towards the top of the division.

The event will also feature a Brazilian premiere. Allan Puro Osso, flyweight fighter (up to 56,7kg.), will make his first appearance with Ultimate gloves. For his debut, the Tupiniquim will not have an easy life.
