Did it sink in?

Just over a day after winning the organization's lightweight tournament, Manfio says that 'the penny hasn't dropped yet'. The athlete talks about the feeling of being one of the main names in mixed martial arts.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet. The belt is heavy, so it helps to know that it's mine. It's a mix of emotions. The money hasn't hit the account yet. I can’t say I’m rich yet (laughs)”, joked the champion.

The fight itself

To get to the belt, Raush didn't have an easy time. Undefeated in the championship with three consecutive victories, Radzhabov sold the match dearly and presented a true 25-minute challenge to the Tupiniquim, who was declared the winner in the unanimous decision of the judges. Aware that he was starring in a great spectacle, the Brazilian spoke about the challenge.

“I was convinced of victory. For me, it was a surprise that he (Radzhabov) didn't go down in the fourth round. The only round I lost was the third. (…) I finished (the fight) already crying. There’s no other way,” he said.

For those who don't know, Manfio entered the PFL tournament as a substitute. Underdog in the championship, the Brazilian spoke about the moments of overcoming and revealed that he thought about stopping fighting professionally.

“I hadn't fought for almost three years. Before joining the PFL, I called my manager and said: 'Stop arranging fights for me. I do not want it anymore'. I was doing well giving private lessons. I've done everything here (in the United States). I spent a lot of time cleaning. After this most difficult period, I was giving private lessons and finding myself in the market, which is something I know how to do. (…) There were nine fights cancelled, almost three years in this process”, he said.

What will you do with the million?

Owner of one of the checks for US$1 million (more than R$5 million), Manfio answered the cliché question: what will he do with the 'jackpot' received?

“One thing I want to buy differently, besides a house, is a car. The name here is Stinger (KIA). It's a car that I always looked at and said: 'one day I'll have it'. It's not even the most expensive. I'm going there this week, I'm just going to wait for the money to hit the account (laughs)”, declared the champion.

Motivational message

After going through ups and downs in his career and experiencing his best moment as a professional in MMA, Manfio has a message for his fans. For those going through difficulties, here's some advice from the new PFL champion.

“Eight months ago, I was cleaning offices at night, begging God to give me an opportunity. It was work that gave me no pleasure, but it brought me bread. I was very unhappy. (…) Put God first. I promise he won't disappoint. Hold on. I’m living in an extraordinary moment, don’t give up,” he concluded.
