Former challenger for the UFC welterweight belt (up to 77,1kg), Dan Hardy was yet another to criticize the low amounts paid by the company to athletes. In an interview with 'MMA fighting', the English fighter came out in defense of his professional colleagues and stated that it doesn't look good for the company's image to have so many employees dissatisfied with their pay.

“It’s not a good look. I also don't think it's a good look for someone like brian kelleher say he's looking for a YouTuber to fight so he doesn't have to get a job at WalMart after he retires. We also have another fighter [Sarah Alpar], who started an 'online crowdfunding' to raise funds,” said Hardy.

The former welterweight title challenger cited the high values of contracts signed by the UFC as contradictory when drawn in parallel with the low values received by the athletes.

“It’s not a good look. Especially when you have fighters crowdfunding online on one side and on the other side the UFC is signing $175 million contracts where the fighters won't see a dime of it. It’s disappointing,” said Dan.

The English fighter continued with the criticism and became controversial by saying that UFC athletes are fighting for 'scrap' when they make as much effort as possible to earn event bonuses.

“The environment that was created by the UFC is everyone fighting for the scraps. It's all about bonuses. Why can't it be about payment? Make sure these fighters are covered before they get in there so they aren't struggling with a deficit and hoping a bonus will pay them. The reality is that we know that the money is being made now”, concluded 'Fora da Lei'.

Retired since 2012, Dan came to challenge for the welterweight belt, but was defeated by Georges St-Pierre in March 2010. The fighter hung up his gloves with a record of 25 victories and 10 setbacks.
