Facing one of the most dominant champions in the history of the sport would not be an easy task, however, Lauren Murphy still managed to be surprised by Valentina Shevchenko. After being defeated by the flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg) in the UFC 266, the American did not hide her admiration for her rival and compared her to great names in the history of the sport. The statement was given in an interview with 'MMA fighting'.

“It's definitely not the result we wanted, but to be honest with you, it was really cool to be there with a martial artist of your caliber. It was a really cool experience. This is what it must be like to play 'one on one' with Michael Jordan or this is how the guys felt when they were competing with Khabib Nurmagomedov, because really, this girl is on another level,” said Murphy.
The North American even compared her fight with the historic duel between Anderson Silva e Forrest griffin, where the North American was defeated in a humiliating way.
“It reminded me of when Forrest griffin fought with Anderson Silva. He said: 'I tried to punch him, he moved his head, then he looked at me like I was stupid and hit me back.” That's what happened in my fight. That must have been what it was like to fight Anderson in his prime. It's cool to be in the presence of greatness. She’s an incredible fighter,” concluded Murphy.
Third in the under-56,7kg ranking, Lauren had her streak of five victories interrupted by the category leader. The North American's record in mixed martial arts is 15 triumphs and five setbacks.
