The long-awaited debut of Gegard Mousasi in the UFC was frustrated with the withdrawal of Alexander Gustafson from the last UFC Sweden card, in April. Against the unknown Ilir Latifi, the Armenian scored a decision victory and took the brunt of a knee injury.

During his recovery, Mousasi began to strongly consider the hypothesis of return to middleweight. To show that the desire is real, as well as the willingness to fight for the belt that rests in the Anderson Silva since 2006, the European said he was interested in face Vitor Belfort, currently number one in the UFC rankings.

This Friday, Gegard asked for the fight again. But this time, it has already presented a possibility of a date. In a Twitter message directed at Dana White, Mousasi said he may fight Belfort in December. “I think my fans would love this fight”, concluded the former DREAM and Strikeforce champion.

Mousasi has not fought as a middleweight since September 2008, when he knocked out Ronaldo Jacare and won the inaugural DREAM belt. After this victory, Mousasi moved up a category and even acted as a heavyweight on more than one occasion. As a light heavyweight, he won another belt in DREAM, in addition to winning the Strikeforce one before landing in the UFC in 2013, after the extinction of the American event also bought by the UFC.
