Mackenzie dern hasn't even faced her compatriot yet Marina Rodriguez in the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 39 this Saturday (9), but he is already thinking about the next challenges in his journey in Ultimate. The athlete even spoke about the possibility of moving up to flyweight (up to 56,7kg) to challenge the champion Valentina Shevchenko.

“I’m working with Rogério Camões (physical trainer). He's making me stronger and I'm feeling good about it. I'm watching Valentina (Shevchenko), you know? She has been in the belt for a long time. The girls are trying, but I think we need someone to take the belt from her. Maybe a jiu-jitsu girl will be the one to beat her. But I can imagine myself reaching 56,7kg. (flyweight) and well, you know? This idea is becoming more and more attractive to me, to come in and try to make history”, stated Dern, in conversation with journalists at 'half day'.
Despite revealing her desire to move up a division, the multi-time jiu-jitsu world champion believes she can 'jump the queue' and get a shot at the strawweight title (up to 52,1kg), if she has a good win against Marina. Still, she says she's in no rush to get a chance.
“I really think if I go there and have an exceptional performance, maybe I can jump Carla and go straight for the belt, but I'm not in a rush. If I win and still have something to improve on, I don’t mind having another fight”, concluded the athlete.
At 28, Mackenzie dern is at its best at Utlimate. The athlete comes from a sequence of four consecutive victories, three of which were by submission in the first round. In her record, there are ten positive results and one negative.
