Bibiano wins interim belt at ONE FC; Tim Sylvia is defeated

Bibiano Fernandes won the interim ONE FC bantamweight belt

ONE FC, the main Asian MMA organization today, held its ninth edition this Friday in Manila, capital of the Philippines. The event featured several former UFC fighters and ended with two title fights, crowning a Brazilian and an underdog. Around 20 thousand people filled the Mall of Asia Arena to watch the fights.

Bibiano Fernandes, who turned down a UFC contract a few months ago, dominated Japan's Koetsu Okazaki for five rounds, won the interim bantamweight belt and the right to unify the title with champion Soo Chul Kim, on a date yet to be announced.

In the main fight, Japanese underdog Koji Oishi knocked out home favorite Honorio Banario and won the organization's featherweight belt. The fight had alternating moments, where both fighters came close to a knockout. Oishi achieved the feat in the second round and joined Shinya Aoki as the Japanese ONE FC belt holders.

Several former UFC fighters were at the card and some were defeated. Former heavyweight champion Tim sylvia, who had failed in his mission to break the category's 120 kilo limit, was surpassed by Tony Johnson in the first round after the doctor decreed that the cut on Maine-Iac's face was too severe to continue. The welterweight Phil baroni was knocked out in the final minute of the first round by Suzuki Nobutatsu.

Better luck they had Kamal Shalorus e Yasuhiro Urushitani. While the Iranian lightweight won the local Eduard Folayang by unanimous decision, the fly went through Rey Docyogen in a split (and controversial) decision.
