Professional in MMA since 2006, the Rio native Vinny Pezão never fought in Brazil in his career. This situation will change in August. The Las Vegas-based athlete will face the Australian Anthony perosh in the fourth edition of UFC Rio, the UFC 163.
The confrontation was initially announced by the website Attack Total and confirmed by the Brazilian on Twitter. Pezão and Perosh will face off between jiu-jitsu black belts who are at risk of not having their UFC contract renewed in the event of a defeat in Rio de Janeiro.
Pezão is 28 years old and returned to the UFC in 2012, when he beat Igor Pokrajac at UFC 152. The Brazilian hadn't fought in the biggest event in the world since 2009, when he lost the TUF 8 final to Ryan bader and then succumbed to Eliot Marshall. Vinny then moved to the Russian M-1 Global event, where he won the light heavyweight belt and fell out with the organizers. After beating Pokrajac, Pezão was defeated by Phil Davis at UFC 159.
Thirteen years older than his opponent, Perosh debuted in the UFC answering a call on the eve of UFC 110, the first edition held in his country. On that occasion, the Australian ended up being knocked out by Mirko Cro Cop. Returning to his original category, Anthony won three fights in a row, but was away for 16 months due to injuries. Upon his return, he was knocked out in seven seconds by Ryan Jimmo and was once again involved with medical issues. The duel with Pezão will be Perosh's debut in 2013.
UFC Rio 4, which will be held on August 3rd at the HSBC Arena, will feature the defense of the UFC belt as its main event. José Aldo against Anthony Pettis. In addition to this fight, the UFC has already announced Demian Maia against Josh koscheck e Serginho Moraes against Neil Magny. For the event, the return of Cezar Mutant, one of the winners of the first season of TUF Brasil.
