Opponent of Brian ortega in his second defense of the featherweight title (up to 65,7kg.), Alexander Volkanovsky ignored this Saturday's opponent (25) and is already looking at the next appointment. Confident of victory in UFC 266, the Australian has his eyes on a trilogy with Max Holloway, former group champion. In an interview with reporter James Lynch, he valued a new clash, promised a show and pointed out flaws in the second duel.

“In the last fight (UFC 251), we don't want to make excuses, but it wasn't turned on and I was still able to get the job done. This shows my level. We have to give him credit, because the way he grew from the first to the second fight was incredible. (…) In the next confrontation, I will be 100% connected and I will not give him any rounds, just like I did in the first meeting”, said Volkanovski.

Willing to eliminate any doubts about his status as champion, Alexander guaranteed full focus for a possible meeting with Holloway. The athlete then spoke about his expectations for the confrontation.

“I'm going to start strong and finish even stronger. Again, Max is an incredible fighter. He's facing other guys and deserving of the challenger position. (…) It will be a great fight, but I think I will be too much for him. I’m going to be a different ‘animal,’” he signed off.

To reach a new presentation with Max, Volkanovski must first go through Brian ortega, which comes from a great performance against 'Korean zombie'. The athletes face each other in the main fight of the UFC 266, which takes place in Las Vegas this weekend.

Featherweight champion between 2017 and 2019, Holloway has not fought since his show against Calvin kattar, in January 2021. Previously, the current number one in the ranking had two stumbles in even fights against Volkanovski. The first resulted in the loss of the title, almost two years ago.
