“I don’t think about things that happened in the past, I always look to the future. I think that when someone talks a lot about their past, it's because they're afraid of the future. But I believe I made a mistake. The people who were with me made mistakes. For example, I could have put my foot down and said: 'No, now let's wait and fight when it's our turn (for the belt)'. That didn’t happen, but I can’t cry about it now,” said Jacaré.

In his last performance in mixed martial arts, the Brazilian ended up submitted by his compatriot André Sergipano precisely in jiu-jitsu, where he is recognized as one of the best in history. The Espírito Santo, who still does not have authorization to train, denies that his career ended due to a broken arm.

“I've been fighting for many years and I wasn't that motivated. That's why I decided to retire. At the moment I'm not thinking about fighting again, and I don't think I'll think about it in the future. I retired. I'm definitely retired. What I experienced inside the Octagon was wonderful, regardless of wins or losses. I had the opportunity to go there, work, see people cheering. I had a lot of fun inside the Octagon. I hope (the fans) remember me as someone who never gave up”, concluded the Brazilian.
