the american Luke Rockhold will make his debut in the octagon against the Brazilian Vitor belfort in the main fight of UFC Combate 2, an event that takes place next Saturday (18), in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina. And the last champion of the Strikeforce middleweight division had special help for the confrontation against the Brazilian.
Daniel Cormier, Rockhold's teammate and who also recently debuted in Ultimate, gave some tips to his compatriot about his first fight in the biggest MMA organization in the world. For him, Luke needs to concentrate and save energy for the fight.
“I told him to wait, because everything would be different from Strikeforce. Nervousness and everything surrounding the fight will affect you more than the fight itself. Everything that happens outside the octagon affects you. You spend so much energy with commitments to the press, weigh-ins, the public and everything else”, he said heavily on the MMA Hour program.
Despite the warning, Cormier says that this entire environment makes the fighter excited and that he must do his job just as he did in Strikeforce. “With all this, you get super excited. It warms up much earlier than it should and wastes energy that should be used in the octagon. I told him to conserve energy and do what you do every time you go up to fight”, he added.
Luke Rockhold, 28 years old, has an MMA record of 10 wins and just one loss. He became the Strikeforce middleweight division champion (up to 84 kg.) after defeating Ronaldo 'Jacaré' by unanimous decision in September 2011.
