Even retired and with no intention of returning to MMA, Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke again about Tony Ferguson. The Russian, who had his fight canceled with 'Bicho Papão' five times, questioned the terrible moment in the veteran's career and stated that the athlete's career is over. In an interview with 'RT Sport', the 'Águia' explained his position.

“He (Ferguson) is 38 years old. Explain to me how he can recover? He has been dominated in his last three fights. (Beneil) Dariush, (Charles of the Bronx) Oliveira, (Justin) Gaethje, they all dominated him standing or on the ground. When you're 38, I believe you have to pump the brakes and have people say, 'You're getting old, you need to stop,” Khabib said.
Lightweight standouts for years, Khabib and Ferguson had five fights confirmed throughout their careers in Ultimate. Interestingly, the clash was canceled on each occasion, preventing the 'dream clash' from being promoted.
Today, Khabib is officially retired from MMA. The athlete made the decision in October last season, shortly after finishing Justin gaethje and unify the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg).
While Nurmagomedov is out, Ferguson is trying to get back on track and show that he can still be competitive within the UFC. Former interim champion of the under-70,3kg division, 'Bicho Papão' has not won a match since June 2019, when he overcame Donald Cerrone. After the victory, there were three consecutive setbacks.
