In the tournament final, Ray Cooper III says he wasn't surprised by his victory over Rory MacDonald in the semis

Last season's champion showed confidence in his abilities; the Hawaiian said that he had been watching the Canadian fighter since he was young

Even though he is the current champion of the welterweight tournament (up to 77,1kg), Ray Cooper was not considered a favorite for the duel against Rory McDonald na PFL 7 2021 this Friday (13). However, after beating the former UFC fighter categorically, the Hawaiian fighter didn't want anything to do with 'false humility' and declared that he wasn't surprised by his victory.

“No, I wasn’t surprised. I didn't know his entire game strategy but with all due respect to Rory, I've been watching him since I was young, he's an incredible fighter but I already knew what he was going to do here”, added Cooper still in the decagon after the fight.

In the grand final of the tournament, Ray will face his rival again Magomed Magomedkerimov, who defeated him in the same decision in 2018. For the big rematch, the Hawaiian fighter showed confidence in coming out victorious.

“I knew it would happen again. That was my plan. This time I'm going to catch him and he won't be able to escape”, concluded Cooper.

In his third welterweight tournament final, Ray will seek his second welterweight belt. The big decision is scheduled for October 27, 2020. The 28-year-old fighter has an MMA record of 23 wins, seven setbacks and one draw.
