Jon Jones decided to give up his light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg) to move to heavyweight (up to 120,2kg). In an interview with the North American website 'Submission Radio', coach Mike Winkeljohn pointed out the Pole as a more difficult duel than the Nigerian for his pupil. He even says that 'Stylebender' is no longer at the top as he used to be.
“Blachowicz would be a scarier fight. He has a lot of strength. So it's all about the fame and how Jon Jones is excited. Adesanya was able to provoke him and, in a fight between two big names, it may not have to do with his skills. If Jones was motivated to return to light heavyweight, he wouldn't want to face Adesanya since he's not the guy anymore,” said Winkeljohn.
The technician, in fact, spoke about the challenges of Jon Jones for the future and ensures that the North American remains motivated by the challenge inside the octagon. Mike guarantees that he would also think about Blachowicz in a possible return to light heavyweight.
"Jon Jones is driven by challenges and understands the real world. You can say whatever you want, but that doesn't mean you're better. It's good when you're the best there and you talk so you can sell the fight. But Blachowicz would be (the opponent) I would think. When Jones feels challenged and wants to go hard, it becomes very exciting for those around him and in the gym,” he concluded.
Despite having announced the migration to heavyweights (up to 120,2kg.) in August 2020, Jon Jones has not yet debuted in the category. Still, he is preparing for his debut, which should take place in 2022.
