Protagonist of one of the strongest episodes in recent MMA history, Chris Weidman there is another chapter in the complicated recovery from the serious injury suffered in UFC 261. In an interview with 'MMA Today on SiriusXM', the former Ultimate champion stated that rehabilitation did not go as expected and will undergo new surgery in August. The veteran regretted the situation, but says he remains positive about the condition.

“I will have another surgery, I just found out. I will undergo a new procedure around August 11th. They (the doctors) will have to place a plate in the fibula bone, because there was no consolidation. So, the bones are not healing the way they should. It’s regrettable”, said the fighter.

Out of action for an indefinite period of time, Weidman, however, tries to remain optimistic about his recovery. Knowing that a new surgery will further postpone his dream return to normal activities, the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) wants to find the strength to continue rehabilitating.

“At the end of the day, my thinking is: I’m a positive person to begin with. Not that I don't have moments of negativity, laziness and lack of motivation. I usually think of it as a 'glass half full'. It helps. If I never feel sorry for myself, it's very easy to look at someone who is worse off and realize that you have nothing to complain about,” he concluded.

One of the protagonists of UFC 261, Chris didn't even have the opportunity to compete in front of Uriah Hall. In the first attack, the American suffered the injury, which resulted in a technical knockout (medical interruption). The episode experienced by the fighter was similar to that suffered by Anderson Silva, in 2013, in front of Weidman himself.

Fatal change? Makhachev ignores warning and could end tragically at welterweight!
