Poirier calls McGregor's 'apology' 'weak' and criticizes rival for trying to minimize defeat

Executioner of Conor twice in 2021, North American questions 'Notorious' not accepting new negative result.

Almost two weeks have passed and the confrontation between Dustin poirier e Conor McGregor, at the beginning of the month, remains a relevant topic in the MMA universe. After claiming to have faced the North American with an ankle injury, the Irishman was criticized by the 'Diamond'. In an interview with 'THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas', the 'Notorious' executioner spoke openly about the matter.

“Right away, mentally, I feel that (the argument) is weak. It's an excuse, but I'm trying not to read too much or go too far these days, (…) of what people are saying, because at home with my family. It's a victory on my resume. I know I did what I needed to do in the fight, before and in my training,” he stated.

For Poirier, if the Irishman was injured, his strategy for the duel was done incorrectly.

“It’s not a smart plan if it hurts you. He (Conor) was shooting (at the start of the match). It was bone on bone. (…) Normally, you punch before kicking, just to 'warm up', to confuse me”, he said.

The confrontation between McGregor and Poirier ended at halftime in the first round. In the final seconds of the first stage, the Irishman suffered the fateful injury, which determined the technical knockout in favor of the North American.
