One of the most anticipated fights for the second half of the UFC season, the duel between Charles of the Bronx e Dustin poirier has already been studied by experts. And, despite being the lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), the Brazilian has a certain underdog status in the bookmakers.

“It’s another motivation for me. I was always discredited within the UFC. It's nothing new to me. Every time I fought, it was as an underdog. They said I couldn't knock him out and I did. They said I wouldn't win and I did. I’ve had ups and downs in the UFC and, since my last victory, I’ve turned the key,” said Charles.
The São Paulo native, in fact, declares that he feels increasingly confident in his abilities and states that Poirier will be 'another' on his list of victories.
“I feel like a monster every day. When they say I can't, I want to show that I can. When they say I can't do it, I show them that I can. My faith moves mountains. With all due respect to Dustin poirier, but there's another guy I'm going to beat. I'm fine, I'm ready and, if the fight were tomorrow, my only difficulty would be cutting weight”, said the São Paulo native.
'He's a really tough guy'
With a calm style and far from any provocation, Do Bronx also commented on the praise received by the former interim champion of the division. The São Paulo native thanked the North American for his respect and projected a real 'war' in the Octagon, should the fight be made official.
“He’s a tough guy, he deserves all the respect for everything he’s done in the UFC. I sincerely thank him for every time he mentioned my name – always very well. He said that he watches me, that he follows my story and everything I've been through. They will definitely be two very tough guys, who move forward and have firepower in their hands. And it will be a war. I'm not worried about what they have for me, but rather what I can bring to the octagon. Showing that they hit, I feel and get up, always forward”, he praised.
Fight confirmed?
Despite already speaking with authority about Dustin poirier, Charles of the Bronx says that the duel has not yet been confirmed. However, he indicates that he may return to work at the end of 2021 and talks about his experiences in the UFC 264 as an indicator that the fight will actually happen.
“They (UFC) didn't tell me anything, but I'm 99% sure that 'Charles Oliveira x Dustin poirier' fight at the end of the year. There were 30 cameras filming there, 15 for the fight and another 15 for me. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left, I was filmed. Everything would indicate that the fight would go like this”, he concluded.
Current leader of the division, Charles won the belt in May, when he ran over Michael chandler, UFC 262. Now, the São Paulo native awaits his first title defense and must face Dustin poirier, which passed through Conor McGregor on two occasions.
