“The one wearing 'full armor' from head to toe to protect his face and feelings is Poirier. The guy with no helmet, wrestling credentials or remaining brain cells is 'Khabib'. Hero or villain? You decide,” Covington wrote.
Colby's text suggests that the images were recorded in 2019, when Dustin was preparing for his confrontation against Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the unification of the lightweight title (up to 70,3kg.). The attacked athlete, however, is not the Russian star, and is therefore a fighter chosen to 'imitate' the 'Eagle's' style.
In the confrontation against the former champion of the under-70,3kg category, Poirier was unable to repeat the success of his training. Facing the legendary Khabib, the American ended up submitting in the third round, losing the chance to take home the group's straight title.
This Saturday (10), Dustin can take an important step towards a new chance of trying to occupy the absolute top of the group. Opponent of Conor McGregor No. UFC 264, the 'Diamond' needs to win to qualify for a title fight against Charles of the Bronx, which has already guaranteed its presence at the weekend's show.
