The new reality in the UFC's lightweight division (up to 70,3kg) does not seem to have motivated Khabib Nurmagomedov to rethink the decision to retire. Out of MMA since October 2020, the Russian once again reinforced his desire to stay out of the sport. In conversation with the press in his country, the athlete was categorical when talking about a possible return in the future.

“I have no desire to return and I don’t believe that one day I will,” said the athlete.
Undefeated in his career in mixed martial arts, with 29 victories in the sport, Khabib made his retirement official after winning Justin gaethje No. UFC 254. On that occasion, in addition to beating the North American, the fighter unified the category belt, resuming his status as absolute champion.
After submitting Gaethje, the Russian, still in the Octagon, supported the decision following the death of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who died in July last season, due to complications from Covid-19. According to the athlete, continuing to compete would not make sense without his main coach, mentor and encourager.
With Khabib out, Ultimate promoted a fight for the division's vacant title in May. As competitors to take the throne, Charles of the Bronx e Michael chandler were chosen and, in the clash, the Brazilian emerged victorious, with a tough knockout over the North American.
